Leverkusen Draw Their Game with Bayern Munich


When former German Champions and Bundesliga Leaders, Bayern Munich, played against Leverkusen, it was bound to be a big one and in the end, the best result could have been what we actually saw in the field. The game ended in a nail biting 1-1 draw.
With Schalke defeated 4-2 at Hannover, it was an opportunity for the German giants to consolidate their lead. However, it was of no use, as the leaders could manage only one point with the draw against Leverkusen.
Once again, the in-form player Arjen Robben?s goal in the 51st minute from the spot put Bayern ahead in the game. However, the determined Arturo Vidal worked hard and got Leverkusen level inside of the next 10 minutes.
Although the home side Leverkusen had the better chances to win, but did not any how give away the penalty in final stages of the game. They managed to earn a point. This has left the club six points far from the league leaders, whereas the Bayern Munich was able to consolidate their lead at the top by two points.
Leverkusen had lots of chances in the first half for taking the lead, when Eren Derdiyok’s header was pushed wide in the 31st minute.
At the other end, Franck Ribery went past Castro, who only had the option of making a foul on the Frenchman for stopping him from scoring a goal. It was Robben, who led the way and sent Rene Adler in the wrong direction for getting Bayern into the lead.
Inside the first fifteen minutes of the second half, Leverkusen almost leveled when a header from 15 yards against the post by Stefan Kiessling was beaten off by Jorg Butt. Bayern’s lead not even lasted for two minutes when Vidal equalized from a pass from Toni Kroos. In the 77th minute, Kroos missed an opportunity to make the score 2-1 when a rebound from Holger Badstuber, was dragged wide of the post by eight yards.
Bayern was left protesting in the final moments of the game, when referee Knut Kircher was unmoved over the hand appeal by Munich against Thomas Muller inside of the penalty box.
